In response to the very low number of American Catholics who do not practice their faith and do not believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, their pastors launched a Eucharistic Revival Conference for the year 2024 “to renew the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.” And for the conference and its related events to take place, they need to raise funds and then spend around $ 28 million. In Philippine currency, this translates to 1.4 billion.
As a self-proclaimed pastor 🤣 to my wife and our three young children, I am very concerned about this. Imagine, Satan can effortlessly take our family members away from the faith in a short time and at no cost, but it would take a great deal of money, effort, and time to try and bring them back to faith without guarantees!
This led me to think that since parents are considered local bishops of our own families, the best thing we can do would be to always be there for them so that Satan does not have the opportunity to take them away from us. To do this, we will have to always be in combat mode and equip ourselves with the spiritual weapons necessary to protect our families. More importantly, we have to be a good example for them because it would be a great hypocrisy and a scandal for a father to tell his family to do something when he himself does not walk the talk.
There are holy bishops, but there are also some who are bad and we cannot be OK with that. I am not going to go into detail about how some bad prelates tolerate evils and heresies because with few searches and clicks on the web, we could easily discover that some of them support those evils that are condemned by Mother Church. Some of them are promoting abortion indirectly by being silent or administering communion to unrepentant pro-abortion Catholic politicians and celebrities. In many parts of the world, especially developed countries, bishops want same-sex marriage approved by the Church.
My point here is that when uninstructed Catholics see a man of God supporting or doing evil, like a father, he becomes their idol and they would be drawn to commit the same or other forms of evil. This is one of the reasons why there are many Catholics who no longer practice their faith and no longer believe in the Real Presence. They would say that if the Eucharist did not change the lives of these men of God, then why would it change the lives of lay people who do not have access to daily mass and did not study theology, philosophy, etc.
Of course, there are many other factors that contribute to the loss of faith, and they all need to be taken into account. But the behavior of a leader greatly affects this crisis. Leaders are all accountable for every lost souls they failed to protect and nurture. That includes family fathers like us.
I hope and pray that this Eucharistic Revival mission will have favorable results and lead many souls back to the Sacraments. We should all pray for its success as “there joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)
