A good news to all Quezonians!

Mater Dolorosa del Quezon or the Our Lady of Sorrows National Shrine in Dolores is one of the major pilgrimage sites in the Quezon Province. The church is part of the Diocese of Lucena. The image of our sorrowful mother is being venerated for decades by both the local faithful and the pilgrims from neighboring places.

In 2017, the church was elevated as a national shrine. This year, 2021, the canonical coronation of the image has been approved by Pope Francis and the actual coronation ceremony has been pushed through on March 25, 2021 despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coronation of the images expect to draw more pilgrims to strengthen the faith of the faithful through devoting themselves to the intercession of the Virgin Mary whom, as per the the Sacred Scriptures, will be called blessed by all generations. (Luke 1:48) Another image of Our Lady of Sorrows has been scheduled for canonical coronation in Capas, Tarlac by May 2021.

I personally recommend visiting this shrine whenever you can. It’s a good place to pray, reflect, and take photos. Also, this church is one of the 500 Jubilee churches with the inherent plenary indulgence for the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines.

Here are some photos I took during my last visit to the shrine in October 2019.

For those who were not able to witness the celebration of the Holy Mass by Pope Francis in the Vatican for the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines, here are two audio files I recorded from the live coverage of the Vatican Media. The first audio is part of the Holy Father Pope Francis’s homily and the second is Cardinal Tagle’s message to the Pope. This took place in the Basilica of Saint Peter on Sunday 14Mar21 5pm PH time. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was streamed live online for the universal Church.

1M Prayed with Cardinal Tagle in Rome to Stop the Pandemic

Advertisements

Today, in the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, about a million Catholics around the globe joined the Healing Rosary for the World live on radio and in Facebook. The prayer was transmitted from the chapel of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino in Rome led by His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, the new Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. The Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary were said for the intercession of the Holy Mother of God to intercede for us in these difficult times of COVID-19 or SARS-COV-2.

If you have been told by someone that the Holy Rosary is not biblical and is a prayer of vain repetition. Check out my post to defend the Holy Rosary against the claim that it is “vain repetition”.

The prayer started with a famous “Ave Maria” song, a plea to the Immaculate Mother to ask God for help in this urgent need. At the end of the rosary, the “Hail Holy Queen” or the Salve Regina was beautifully sung in Latin. It concluded with the Oratio Imperata imploring God’s intervention to stop the spread of the virus and to save us all from our fears. The prelate then thanked all who exerted efforts to pray with him. He then blessed them with the sign of of the cross.

The prayer lasted for 30 minutes with at least 700k participants excluding those who are on TV and radio at the end of the live streaming. At 10:08 pm, about 30 mins after the live broadcast, there were 903K views. You may check out the current count now at the Cardinal’s official Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ArchbishopTagle/videos/1152252108302621.

Many thanks to Cubao Media and Radio Veritas for making this live rosary accessible for us who do not have TV and Radio access. Let us support them in any way we can! Doing so, we unite ourselves in the mission-to proclaim the Gospel to all corners of the world-that our Lord Jesus Christ gave to the Church.
